When is the Cenacolo Vinciano open?
The Cenacolo Vinciano Museum (refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie, where Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper is displayed) is open on Tuesdays to Sundays. It is closed on Mondays (unless a special opening is announced). Opening and closing times can vary by season and are set by the museum; a typical pattern is from early morning (e.g. 08:15) until late afternoon or early evening (e.g. 18:45), with the last entry slot before closing. Always check the official website or your ticket provider for the current schedule before your visit.
How long does a Last Supper visit take?
Your time inside the refectory is limited to about 15 minutes per group. This is to protect the mural from humidity and prolonged exposure. Before that, you need to activate your ticket at the ticket office (at least 30 minutes before your slot), leave bags in the lockers and go through the control point. So plan for roughly 45–60 minutes from arrival at the museum (including queue and activation) to the end of your refectory visit. If you also visit the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie (free, separate from the museum), add extra time.
Best time to visit and slot availability
Mornings and weekdays often have more available slots and slightly smaller crowds. Peak periods (weekends, holidays, high season) fill up quickly—book Santa Maria delle Grazie tickets well in advance. The museum updates availability daily; if no standard admission is free for your date, check guided tours at set times (Italian/English) or workshop activities on the official site. For prices and combos, see Prices and Combo deals.
Arrival and ticket activation
You must activate your ticket in person at the museum ticket office (about 10 metres to the left of the main entrance), at least 30 minutes before your visit time. Each visitor must show ID. Large bags and backpacks must be left in the lockers. If you arrive too late, you may lose the right to enter. For the address and how to get there, see our Map & directions page.
Closures and special opening hours
The museum may close on certain holidays or for maintenance. Special openings (e.g. some Mondays) may be announced on the official site. We recommend confirming opening hours and any closures shortly before your visit at www.cenacolovinciano.org or with your ticket provider.
